2013 Holiday Cocktail

Dec 11 2013

The drink pick for this 2013 Holiday Season Celebration is the

Fuji Apple Cocktail.

The Fuji apple is a hybrid between the Red Delicious and the Virginia Ralls Genet. They are sweeter and crispier than most apples and with refrigeration can remain fresh for up to a year. Presently they are the fourth favorite apple in the US.

I am sure you will enjoy the juice of these apples especially when they are juiced with this recipe.

5 Fuji Apples, cored, large dice

2 cups apple cider

1/2 cup sugar

1 cinnamon stick

Fuji apple, cored, divided

1/4 cup apple cider

1/4 oz (1/2 Tbsp) lemon juice

2 oz (1/4 cup) Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey

ice cubes

ground cinnamon, for garnish

  1. Make confiture: Add apples to large pot; add 2 cups apple cider. Stir in sugar and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil on MED-HIGH, stir.  Reduce heat to MED-LOW, cook about 60 min, stirring often, until thickened and apples are broken down. Remove from heat; cool in ice bath. Remove cinnamon stick. Chill mixture overnight to thicken. (Makes enough for 28 drinks
  2. For each drink: Slice 1/4 apple in 2 to 3 pieces; muddle in cocktail shaker. Add 3 Tbsp confiture, 1/4 cup apple cider, 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice, and 1/4 cup whiskey; add ice. Shake and strain into martini glass
  3. Garnish with thin apple slice and ground cinnamon.
